So this "shorten" utility will create a traditional md5 file from flac files? Odd. Really weird in fact. Okay - I'll give it a try! Thanks for the suggestion!

You got it. Technically the md5 isn't necessary, but if one of the FLAC files fails its internal checksum, you won't be notified via email. The md5 enables that notification email.

So...if you're confident in your ability to upload files without errors, you can get away with no md5, but if it's your first time, I'd recommend using one until you get the hang of the process. :)
